Robert E. Hope's Obituary
Robert E. Hope, born November 24, 1934 in Warren, Ohio, entered into glory on January 17, 2018 at Southwest Hospice in Strongsville, Ohio. He was the son of James W. and Irene Penry Hope and had one sister, Janet McKeefery of Leavittsburg, Ohio.
He graduated from Warren Township High School, class of 1952, and went on to attend the University of Vermont. He graduated from The Youngstown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1958. He earned his Master of Science in Education, Guidance/Psychology and Public School Administration, from Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania in 1963.
A lifelong learner and lover of people and especially students, Mr. Hope started his 44-year career in the Howland Local School District, teaching sixth grade before moving to the high school. He took a position as teacher and later guidance counselor at Austintown-Fitch High School, 1960-1966, in Mahoning County, entering administration at Poland Seminary High School. From there he went on to Springfield Local High School to become High School Principal.
In 1970 he became Junior High School Principal in Liberty Township, serving in various capacities including High School Principal and Assistant Superintendent until 1986. He accepted the position of Director of Curriculum and Instruction for regular education with the Trumbull County Board of Education under County Superintendent Herbert G. Thomas, retiring in December, 1991. After two years, Mr. Hope returned to active service as an administrator with the Columbia Local School District and the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools, both in Lorain County, finally retiring from the Newbury Local School District in Geauga County in 2006. During retirement he enjoyed many happy years working in security for the Cleveland Indians.
He married Carole Varner Boyer on December 6, 1991, who survives him. Other survivors are son David Brower Hope (Amber) of Phoenix, Arizona; stepsons Andrew Raymond Boyer (Cheryl) of Dublin, Ohio; Reid Christian Boyer of Cleveland, Ohio; Benjamin James Boyer of Brunswick, Ohio; and grandchildren Jack, Zoe and Owen Hope of Phoenix, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2018 at 11AM with visitation one hour prior at Parma Heights Baptist Church, 8971 W Ridgewood Dr, Parma Heights, OH 44130. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SW Hospice Fund, 18659 Drake Rd, Strongsville OH 44136 or Parma Heights Christian Academy, 8971 W. Ridgewood Dr., Parma Hts OH 44130. Please also consider donating blood to the Red Cross.
Mr. Hope wished for his ashes to be sprinkled upon Lake Fairlee, Ely, Vermont, the site of his beloved Camp Passumpsic.
