He was a teacher who cared about students and really listened. Fitch was a better place when he was there.

I am so sad to learn of Mr. Hope’s passing. I was one of his history students at Howland High School. He was a great teacher, one of my very favorites, and a fine man. You have my sincerest sympathy. Jeanine Husher Abruzzi
i had the pleasure of working for and with Bob when he was a director for the county board. We often would take a walk in the nearby park after lunch - conversation was always easy and enjoyable. My condolences to all.
We are very sorry to hear of Bob's passing and would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his family. My husband and I met Bob 10 years or so ago in Vermont, on beautiful Lake Fairlee. We were connected to Camp Passumpsic back in the early 70's and Bob was a camper and counselor back in the late forties and early fifties. Somehow we were introduced and enjoyed sharing stories of the wonderful camp we all loved and were so sorry when it closed in 1975. Bob gathered some old camp friends to celebrate the 95th anniversary of its beginnings under the auspices of Mr. and Mrs. Storey in 1914. A small group of 7 or so hiked through the property reliving their early days at camp. We then joined them for lunch at the Red Lodge, generously hosted by the owners, Dr. and Mrs. Jim Hughes, in the lower camp property on the lake. Bob absolutely and truly loved Camp Passumpsic and his years of friendship with the Storeys. It was a very happy experience for him and one he never forgot.

Met Bob at Camp Passumpsic in 1956, where he was the one counselor everyone could depend on – he had the take-charge manner that was needed for keeping 10- and 11-year olds in line, but he was always kind, firm and understanding. I remember that my parents (who, as teachers themselves, were good judges of people) were impressed with him, and felt we campers were in good hands.
I realize I'm one of thousands he influenced in his years of teaching and administration, but summer camp was not just for fun – I learned many important life lessons there, and Bob was right there at the top of the people giving guidance and direction. I remember that we made fun of some of the counselors behind their backs, but not of Bob!
It's good to know his last human remains will come to ground in the beautiful lake we all came to love.
Thanks for the opportunity to share good memories of this strong and guiding man.
