Paul Siedel's Obituary
Paul Siedel, 74, passed away April 4, 2025. Beloved son of the late Bernard Siedel and Norma Siedel (nee Gilles). Loving brother of Tom Siedel (Maggie) of New Orleans, LA and Jackie Twohig (the late Tim) of Columbia Station, OH. Dear uncle of Carly Rovira, Ellen Siedel and Matt Twohig.
Paul graduated from Akron University in 1972. He taught in Manassas, VA for 3 years then returned to Ohio to teach in the Grafton Midview District until retirement in 2002. After his retirement, Paul was a substitute teacher at Metro Catholic for many years.
Paul was born a teacher. He loved maps and geography but history was his passion. Local history, U.S. history, or World history, he loved it all and enjoyed sharing interesting stories with everyone.
Paul researched and wrote a Lolly the Trolly tour of the Civil War in Cleveland. He also gave many talks to libraries and civic groups in the area. Many of these lectures were about the Civil War. He often said that his tremendous interest in the Civil War started when he found Bruce Cattons Civil War book under the Christmas tree at age 11.
Paul was an active member of 3 Civil War Roundtable groups. He was on the Woodland Cemetery Board and gave tours and talks about the cemetery. Paul was also a member of the Sherlock Holmes Diogenes Club and the Charles Dickens Fellowship. He enjoyed gardening and was proud of his roses, rhubarb and raspberries.
Most of all, Paul was a wonderful and caring person. His journals are filled with entries of meeting and helping others and the little acts of kindness he did for family, friends and neighbors.
