I just learned that Paul had passed away today. I just assumed that he had been traveling the United States for the world like he was inclined to do.

Paul had been a great former neighbor, friend, and mentor to me. I was fortunate that he connected many different parts of my world together.

Paul’s love of knowledge and history gave us many hours and days of great shared conversation. Those conversations prompted me to continue learning and being unashamed to love those things in a world where conversations are short and education is shunned.

I’m really going to miss Paul quite a bit.

I miss Paul - a lot. He was almost always upbeat and easy to talk to. We had spoken just a few days before his death.. Our conversation touched on many topics, including health, growing old, and dying. It's just hard to fathom that this vital man has passed. About a week before, a car with rowdies had plowed through Paul's front rose garden with its picket fence, tore off the front corner of his house, and landed in his neighbor's basement. Paul was not flummoxed by any of it, had already started plans to have things repaired, and just took the whole incident in stride. Paul was like that: he rolled with life as it came to him, dealt with it, and moved on. In the same conversation, he also made a point of emphasizing how much he loved living in Ohio City. Positive, indefatigable, nonjudgmental, and kind, Paul was a good man. I miss him - a lot.

My condolences to Paul's family. I knew Paul for at least the last ten years, as he would often come to visit with several of us at Berea-area coffee shops. I loved Paul's kindness and sense of humor. As a teacher himself, he was always interested in--and supportive of--my teaching. I admired his passion and knowledge for Civil War history and his interest in Charles Dickens. He shared wonderful, humorous stories from his growing-up years and from his teaching--also about his dogs and other characters he had encountered along the way. So sorry he left so soon. I hope his warm laugh will live on in our collective memory.

Although we moved away years ago, I still remember our many encounters with Paul in our Ohio City neighborhood. He was a regular at our Christmas caroling parties, and was involved in other neighborhood projects over the years. I'll always remember seeing him biking in the "hood, long before biking was a popular as it is now. Friendly and helpful; guess that's the definition of a perfect neighbor!

I was always happy to see Paul over his many years in our Ohio City neighborhood. We had numerous engaging and humorous sidewalk conversations as he was walking his dog or out for a bike ride. Block club meetings were best when I could spend some time chatting and laughing with him. His warmth, intelligence, and spirit will be missed.

Paul was a wonderful friend through the years. We go back as far as the days of 4H, showing our animals at the Cuyahoga County Fair. His sister , Jackie, and I have been forever friends. I always saw Paul everytime I would go back to visit. We had so many laughs and stories over the years. He was such a wonderful, caring person , who always had time for others. I know his passion as a teacher was the history of the Civil War. Such a shock to hear this. He will be remembered forever by so many lives he touched.

I was sad and surprised to hear that Paul passed away. He was a great colleague( Brush Elementary, Midview School District) and friend. He was very kind and caring to all. We stayed in touch even though I moved out of state several years ago. He recently reached out a couple weeks ago. We always remembered each others birthdays. He will be missed!

Paul was a great teacher and a wonderful human being. He was always willing to share his in-depth knowledge of the Civil War and Dickens, and his Civil War tour in Cleveland was one of the best ever. He also served informally as the Siedel family historian, and I could always count on whenever a question arose. Thank you for the many lives you touched,Paul. We will miss you.
