Paul T. Lorz Jr.'s Obituary
Paul T. Lorz Jr. passed away on May 4, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on June 20, 1942, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Paul lived a full and purposeful life shaped by his passion for education, his deep love of French language and culture, a lifelong curiosity for the world, and an enduring devotion to jazz.
Paul was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from John Carroll University, followed by a Master's degree in French from Case Western Reserve University.
Paul gave 40 remarkable years to Padua Franciscan High School, where he wore many hats — French and Economics teacher, Director of the Alumni Association, Vice Principal, and interim Principal. More than any title, it was the relationships he built that defined his time there. He forged a sister school partnership between Padua and a high school in Bordeaux, France, and organized multiple missionary trips to Siberia, Russia, and Poland to teach English as a second language. The Padua Franciscan community was, in every sense, his second family — a source of purpose, belonging, and pride throughout his adult life.
Away from the classroom, Paul found his truest sense of peace at Waldhütte, the Lorz Family Cabin tucked into the woods of the Allegheny National Forest. More than a retreat, it was a gathering place — a cherished setting where friends and family came together to share life, laughter, and love.
Music was another of Paul's great joys. A gifted pianist and bassist, he continued booking gigs with The Trio well into his late seventies, carrying the spirit of jazz with him wherever he went.
Above all, Paul was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather — an intellectual with a warm heart and an adventurous spirit. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his children, Kathleen Lorz and David Lorz and his wife Sara; and his cherished grandchildren, Meghan, Macy, Max, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Eleanor Lorz, his sister Marie, and his brother John.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00–2:00 PM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Jardine Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Road in Stongsville.
