Linda and I were close in age and as cousins, close playmates. She was pretty and smart, and I wanted to be just like her. When we were very young, she always wanted to play “house” or “school”, which foreshadowed her desire to be both an excellent teacher and a great homemaker. She also had a mature sense of fairness. Because I didn’t want to play either of those games, we’d take turns as to who got to pick the activity. As we entered our teens, she grew even more graceful and lovely. But she never let it go to her head. When you’re past middle age, looks may fade, but Linda’s graciousness never wavered.
