Lena Rose DeRiso's Obituary
Lena Rose DeRiso, a beacon of warmth and love, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Strongsville, Ohio, at the age of 88. Born on November 2, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lena lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a passion for her Italian heritage, and an unwavering spirit of generosity.
Lena was the beloved wife of the late Alexander DeRiso for 57 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter. She was the loving mother of Dina Miller (John) and Carla Costello (Edward), and she poured her heart into raising her daughters with the same love and care that she bestowed upon everything she touched. Lena's role as a cherished grandmother to Kaitlyn Miller, Ryan, and Evan Costello was one she held dear to her heart. She was fiercely loyal and proud of her grandchildren, supporting them unconditionally in all their endeavors.
Those who knew Lena were touched by her nurturing nature. Her home was a testament to her pride and joy, always well-kept and brimming with happiness. She had a talent for making everyone feel welcome and cared for, often expressing her love through the delicious Italian meals she prepared. Lena's kitchen was not just a place for cooking but a classroom where she passed on her culinary skills to her adoring grandchildren.
A faithful prayer partner to many, Lena's spiritual life was a source of strength and comfort to those around her. Her creative spirit knew no bounds, as she could craft anything from a whimsical costume to a sturdy kitchen cabinet with ease and finesse. Lena's love for celebration was infectious; she cherished every holiday and life event, big or small, always insisting on sharing those moments with loved ones.
An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Lena's enthusiasm for her team was matched only by her love for dark chocolate and chocolate-covered cherries. Her presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and she was not just a mother to her own children—she was a Mum to everyone, always ready to extend her care and affection to others.
Lena’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and the joy of togetherness. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends, as they remember a life beautifully lived and a woman deeply loved. Lena's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of family, and the grace of a life well-lived. She will be profoundly missed, yet her light will continue to shine brightly through the lives of those she loved.
