Karl W. Weninger's Obituary
KARL W. WENINGER, 57, passed away at home on December 17, 2011, after living 15 months with a glioblastoma brain cancer. Dearest husband of Susan for 19 years. Loving father of Alicia, Matthew, Christopher Myers, Timothy (Lauren) Myers, and Katie (Dustin) Wilkins. "Papa" of Jack Myers and uncle to many. Cherished son of Andrew (deceased) and Blanka. Faithful brother of Ernst (Dawn), Stephen, Attila (Pat), and Mark (Julie). Lifelong friend of Gary Henry. Karl was a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Cleveland serving at St. Helen in Newbury and St. Gregory the Great in South Euclid. Afterwards, Karl worked in long-term health care, most recently with Peregrine Health Services as Vice President of Operations. Karl's compassion and wisdom in caring for the elderly was evident to many over the years. He served on the Ohio Health Care Board of Directors, was appointed to the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, and was the first recipient of the Peregrine Principle Award.
Karl was a humble, thoughtful, and faithful man who touched the lives of everyone he met. He amazed his doctors and all of us after his diagnosis with his strength and determination. God blessed him with a year that allowed him to do the things he loved. He was able to continue working because of the support and flexibility of his employer, Peregrine Health Services, and its owner/CEO Paul Dauerman. We are forever grateful for their many kindnesses. Karl was also able to attend Matt's baseball and basketball games, visit the art college Alicia hopes to attend, and spend more time with them each day. Karl spent time with his first grandson Jack, and in September, walked Katie down the aisle at her wedding. His beautiful toast brought tears to the eyes of many in attendance.
Karl and his entire family will be forever grateful for the love, support and prayers of family and friends during Karl's illness. Each and every one of you made a difference, and we always knew we were not on this journey alone. At the end, Karl was at peace when God took him, at home and surrounded by his children.
The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to the Karl W. Weninger Memorial Fund which has been established to benefit the children's college education.
