John Rainone's Obituary
John Rainone, 78, of Medina, Ohio and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by love.
Son of the late Roland and Mary, born and raised in Cleveland, John was a proud graduate of St. Ignatius and University of Detroit.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched countless lives. He spent over 40 years at MTD Products, where he rose to the position of Senior Vice President. His leadership, integrity, and dedication left a lasting impact on the company and all who had the privilege of working with him.
John was a man of many passions, whose zest for life was evident in everything he did. An accomplished golfer with a sixth sense for locating his partners’ shanked shots (and occasionally his own), he found joy and camaraderie on the course, especially at his 'home clubs’ of Columbia Hills and Colonial Country. Possessing an appreciation for life’s finer things, he was especially known for his love of travel, good food, and exceptional bourbons; he loved sharing his top-shelf finds with friends, whether they appreciated the subtle notes or just liked the free pour. Sharing his lifelong affection for the performing arts with Nancy -- particularly theater and music -- brought him countless cherished memories, with Les Misérables holding a special place in his heart.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Nancy Rainone (née Bell); his children Jenny, Bethany Desjarlais (Jeff), Scott Mehalko (Candace), Kerry Sheppard (Mike), and Timothy, along with his grandchildren Jacob, Riley, Noah, Taylor, Kristen, Caitlyn, and Evan. Loving brother of Ellie Kickel (Jim) deceased, Martha (Mike) Groff, Linda Zupan and Rick (Debbie) Rainone. He was a proud and loving patriarch whose guidance, kindness, joy, and affection will be remembered always by those who loved him.
In keeping with John’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A celebration will be planned at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory, share stories, and raise a glass to a life well lived.
