Jerry Galaska's Obituary
Jerome "Jerry" Galaska, 76, passed away on January 4, 2025. Jerry's life was marked by his faith to God, his unwavering commitment to his family, his love for sports and his infectious enthusiasm.
Born into a close-knit family, Jerry was the cherished brother of Jim (Cleo) and the late Joe (Caroline). He carried the values of family and camaraderie throughout his life, creating a legacy of love and devotion. Jerry's heart found its match in Sue, his adoring wife of 55 years, and together they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and tenderness.
A loving father, Jerry was a hero in the eyes of his sons, Jeff (Tommi) and Jason (Sara). His guidance and support were the cornerstones of their lives, and his legacy lives on through them. As a grandfather, Jerry was nothing short of magical. Roman, Braden, Ryker, Lauren, and Rhettec knew him as the Big Pop / PaPa who never missed a game, a match, or a chance to make them smile. His pockets were always a source of wonder, as he was known to have a Life Saver at the ready for anyone in need of a little sweetness.
Jerry's love for sports was a thread that ran through his life and family. A baseball enthusiast at heart once even having the opportunity to try out as a MLB pitcher with the Pirates. He found joy not only in the game but in the community it fostered. His friendships with Bob, Randy, and John were cemented on the golf course, where they shared countless rounds, stories, and laughs.
To know Jerry was to know a man who never met a stranger. His sociable nature made him a friend to many, and his presence was a source of comfort and happiness. He was the embodiment of a life well-lived, one filled with passion, kindness, and an unshakeable love for those around him. The last 25 years of his career was spent at Pierre’s Ice Cream. Thus came his alias of “The Ice Cream Man”.
Jerry's departure leaves behind a “tall” void that cannot be filled, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. His was a life that exemplified the beauty of dedication, the warmth of companionship, and the joy of unconditional love. As we remember Jerry Galaska, we celebrate a man who was truly the best dad, grandpa, husband, and friend anyone could ask for.
