George Alan Schindler's Obituary
George Alan Schindler
March 30, 1955 – October 11, 2025
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Restaurateur
George Alan Schindler, a devoted family man and a cornerstone of Cleveland’s hospitality scene, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, at the age of 70. He was surrounded by the people who meant the most to him—his family and closest friends.
Born and raised in Cleveland, George lived a life marked by hard work, unwavering loyalty, generosity, and deep love for his city, his family, and his craft. As President and partner of Hospitality Restaurants, he played a pivotal role in shaping the culinary landscape of Northeast Ohio. He was instrumental in creating and growing some of the region’s most celebrated dining destinations, including Cabin Club, Salmon Dave’s, Blue Point Grille, Thirsty Parrot, Delmonico’s Steakhouse, Rosewood Grill, and Kingfish. His leadership, vision, and passion for hospitality elevated the local dining scene for generations of Clevelanders and earned him—and his longtime friend and business partner Kay Ameen—a well-deserved place in the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance Hall of Fame.
But George’s greatest pride wasn’t in awards or business ventures—it was in his family.
He was the beloved husband of Karen Schindler, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. He was a proud father to Samantha Brown (Rusty) and Max Schindler (Amanda McLin), and a deeply adored grandfather to Lucas, Payton, Lennon, and Murphy. He also leaves behind his sister Elaine Lautzenheiser and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends who looked up to him. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Annette Schindler, whose values shaped the man he became.
He was the rock of his family—steady, selfless, and always there. His generosity touched everyone who knew him.
George lived with intention. He always had a plan, and he brought people together—whether through a great meal, a heartfelt conversation, or a shared toast. He found joy in traveling the world with family and close friends, playing golf, and exploring the art of winemaking, often sharing bottles from his personal collection with those he cared about most. A devoted Cleveland sports fan, he supported his hometown teams with lifelong passion and pride.
George loved a good party and would want nothing more than a larger-than-life celebration in his honor. Come raise a glass, share a story, and help us celebrate the incredible 70 years he lived on this earth.
