My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you ..... Fred was an wonderful person, had a great sense of humor and was a fantastic mentor .My memories of him will be with me for the rest of my life. Just a few short ones: the fact the he would drop out of the OR every hour on the hour to have a ciggie and a cup of coffee (this is when you could smoke in the OR lounge); Martha putting air fresheners under his desk at Metro to stop the smell of the cigarettes and him coming out "scolding" her halfheartedly for doing this; the time he asked me multiple times if I could drive stick shift because we were at an Ohio State football game and his back went out and I had to half carry him down the bleachers and to the car and him worrying the whole way home that I was going to ruin his new beamer; him telling me that he had found my to be husband and he told me he was a patient on the floor and I would meet him on rounds - then going into the room and finding out the patient was a double amputee. When we came out of the room he said well he is short enough isn't he? you get the picture...I will always cherish my memories and every thing he taught me about vascular surgery and for his great advice....love marilyn
