Barbara Ann Hennis' Obituary
With full hearts and deep sadness, we share the passing of Barbara Ann Hennis (née
Langley), who left us peacefully at the age of 94. Barbara was the devoted wife of the
late James G. Hennis, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage — a life
built on love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Barbara was born and raised on a large farm just south of Lawrenceville, Georgia, the
daughter of John and Gwynay Langley (Williams). That rural upbringing shaped her
strong spirit and quiet resilience — qualities she carried with her through every chapter of
her life.
She poured her heart into caring for others, working as a surgical nurse at Southwest
Hospital alongside Dr. Hadden in Berea, and later as a school nurse in Columbia Station.
She was a steady presence in her community — always showing up, always helping.
Whether it was leading Cub Scouts as a den mother for Pack 104, supporting Troop 176,
delivering Meals on Wheels for 15 years, or preparing meals at Columbia United
Methodist Church for weddings, funerals, and celebrations, Barbara gave her time and
energy without hesitation.
But above all, Barbara was a mom — devoted, loving, and always involved. She raised
her three sons, Gregory (Carol), Scott (Drema), and Matthew (Michelle), with warmth
and care. She was the proud grandmother of Jason, Jeffrey (Holly), James, Meghan (James), Danielle,
Sarah, Brian, and Kevin, and the beloved great-grandmother to eight more. Family meant
everything to her, and she made sure everyone knew they were loved.
She was also a dear sister to Becky, Morris, Carole, and Sandra — relationships she held
close throughout her life.
Barbara had a deep love for simple joys. She was a talented quilter and seamstress,
known for the beautiful things she created with her hands. She found happiness in her
garden, especially tending to her cherished roses in the raised flower beds she took so
much pride in.
She loved Columbia Station and the people in it. She made an impact, both quietly and
meaningfully, through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, patience, and
steady presence.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and strength. She will be missed more
than words can say, but her spirit will live on in the memories we share and the lives she
shaped.
