I am filled with profound sadness upon hearing of Dr. Lopez’s passing. He was not just an extraordinary mentor to me; he was truly a father figure who always nurtured my growth and learning. It’s a rare gift to encounter someone who, despite their immense knowledge and experience, remains so humble and empathetic toward young learners. Dr. Lopez touched countless lives with his genuine care and unwavering love for the field of medicine and cardiology. He inspired young physicians to approach medicine with respect and compassion for others, while constantly striving for excellence. The legacy of kindness and dedication that Dr. Lopez leaves behind will serve as a guiding light for future cardiologists. His influence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.

I am in great shock for this sad news.I loved his bow ties, and he would giggle when I would tell him. I loved hearing him come through units training his residents. We used to chat in spanish about places we have been and things we have done. To his family, I offer a warm embrace and to tell you, were truly blessed to have had him in your lives, just know that there are many of who mourn him today and always. He is and will be truly missed but I know we will see him again one day. Volveremos a estar juntos

i had the pleasure of meeting Dr Lopez-Candales while i worked as his AMSA in Cardiology here at the Dayton VA for maybe 6 months and he was so sweet and caring so much that he would ask me how my mom was doing every time i would pass his office because she was suffering from Ulcertative Colitis when i say he was the Most Compassionate and caring Cardiologist i have ever met and one of a kind. he will be truely missed and may he RIP !! he was amazing and i had wanted to send a sympathy card to his family . many prayers and sympathy to his entire family.
sincerely,
Jennifer Reeder AMSA
