William F. Schneider Jr's Obituary
William F. Schneider Jr., (Bill) , 87, of Strongsville, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on 11/12/23, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (nee Pedersen); dear father of Jennifer Parks (Philip) and Michelle, brother of Ronald Schneider (the late Jan (nee Speilman)) and his twin sister, the late Beverly (Dr. Lee Kulis; surviving). He was the son of the late William Sr. and Helen Schneider (nee Barnes).
Bill, was born on 3/23/36 in Lakewood Ohio. He graduated from Rocky River High School in 1954 where he met and married the love of his life, Beverly, in 1958. They just celebrated 65 years together this past June. He attended The Ohio State University majoring in Horticulture, was drafted in 1959 and served in the Army for 2 ½ years. Bill, his father and brother Ronald settled on 58 acres in Strongsville in 1966 where the family built, owned and grew their greenhouse/flowering plant business, W.F. Schneider & Sons, to become one of the most recognized in the area. They grew stunning Poinsettias, Easter Lilies, and Mums as well as many other plants at their greenhouse for decades. Bill served on the Ohio Florists’ Association Board of Directors, 1980-1982 as well as served as President ,1981-1982, of The Ohio State Floriculture Landscape Horticulture Alumni Association.
Bill will always be remembered as a kind, quiet loving husband, father and friend. He was there for anyone who was in need. He had this exceptional way of thinking through a situation until finding the solution, even if he had to build/fix it himself. There wasn’t a project he wouldn’t eagerly take on. His inquisitive and creative nature was evident throughout his entire life. From his ability to grow, and create the most beautiful of plants, to always amazing us with his intricate creative handmade puzzles that he brought to all Holiday events and family reunions. How does a person take PVC pipes and pool noodles and make 3 different kinds of floating pool loungers or the same PVC and material and make dog beds for his daughter’s dog facility? Oh, and let’s not forget about all those games of Poker. He loved the challenge…he loved to laugh…even better, he loved to win!
He enjoyed traveling. From visiting distant locations with friends and family, an 8,000-mile summer family vacation out west, driving back and forth on Saturdays for The Ohio State University home games, to just Sunday drives to nowhere in particular with Bev and the girls.
Bill and his family were no strangers when it came to sports. The Cleveland Browns, but especially his passion for The Ohio State Buckeyes was contagious. O-H-I-O
His life for the last 30 years involved a beloved group of friends and family in Fort Myers, Florida. He and Bev bought a Villa in a Golf Community called Olde Hickory Golf & Country Club. They became like their second family. They enjoyed their last visit this past March. He and Bev were true Snowbirds, spending their winters in Florida golfing, entertaining and making extraordinary friendships and their summers back in Strongsville with their family and old, dear, friends, some going back to grade school.
What a life! He will be missed dearly by all of those who had the privilege to know him.
