Walter S. Garbinski's Obituary
Walter S. Garbinski passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was born on October 28, 1946 in Johnstown, PA to the late Walter and Carmella (Aveni) Garbinski.
Walt attended St. Patrick’s grade school, Johnstown Catholic High School (now Bishop McCort) and graduated from a trade school all before entering the service where he served in the active reserves.
After leaving the reserves, Walt had a successful career in the textile industry which took him abroad for over 10 years where he experienced new cultures, made many close friends, and built a repertoire of fascinating stories he loved to tell.
In his spare time, Walt had a talent for woodworking and home improvement projects, a love of golf and a passion for travel. His last trip was a cross-country road trip to Colorado with his nephew-in-law, Rick, where they drove to the top of Pikes Peak.
In short, he had a rich life:
• He married his love, the late Linda A. (Bouchard) Garbinski.
• He was always close to his siblings: Fred (Judie) Garbinski, the late Francis (Thelma) Garbinski and the late Martha (John) Pliskaner; and especially with his niece, Anne Pliskaner, in helping care for Martha before her passing,
• And he kept in touch with his many aunts, uncles, cousins and his many friends in Pittsburgh, Johnstown, eastern PA and abroad.
Finally, he will always be remembered as a fun, loving, and thoughtful uncle to Gary, Jodie, Glenn, Robin, Anne and the late Johnny; and great uncle to Greg, Halle, Connor and Tyler.
Bro, you will be missed. Your legacy will live on in all of us.
Arrangements are being made through Jardine’s funeral home in Strongsville, OH. Services will be held in Pittsburgh this spring with interment of he, and his late wife, in Johnstown, PA in early September. Finalized plans will be forwarded directly to family and friends at a later date.
