Ruth Elaine Ometer Shrock's Obituary
Ruth Elaine Ometer Shrock passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at the age of 83. She was born on December 31, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to Mariam Carlene Graves and Ralph Lamar Ometer, and most recently resided in Galena, Ohio.
Ruth graduated from Galion High School in 1962 and received both a bachelors degree (in Education) and masters degree (in Human Nutrition) from The Ohio State University. An additional masters degree was obtained as time allowed while raising her children.
Ruth married her OSU sweetheart, Harold Shrock, Jr., in March of 1967, and they had two children, Andrew and Jamie. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, and is survived by her children and her sister, Jo Hogan. She will be remembered by her family with deep gratitude and affection, and her influence and example will continue to guide all who knew her.
Ruth dedicated many years of professional service as a nutritionist with the Ohio Department of Health, where she worked faithfully in support of public health and the well-being of others. She also served her community as a volunteer poll worker, reflecting her strong sense of civic responsibility.
In her personal life, Ruth greatly enjoyed gardening, hiking, research, and traveling. She valued the experiences and memories gained through her many journeys and pursuits.
Ruth will be remembered for her integrity, kindness, and enduring presence. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and respect to family and friends. She was a great mom!
