I have known Russ my whole life. My fondest memories go back to when we were growing up. Probably 4or5 is my first memories playing catch. Being 7 years younger he tried to tune me up fast to get to his level. This served me in sports my whole life but I never reached his level in baseball. Russ was always as funny as everyone knew him to be. Charismatic, out going, friendly, I can go on and on. What really sticks in my mind is his firsts. His first car, this guy really loved cars, first job, first 100.00 pair of shoes, everybody knows that story. That guy could sure tell stories. His first girl friend and then soon he met Linda. Freddie he called her, so we all did. Them two were like pees in a pod, always, so happy, it was infectious. Freddie brought a certain love to the whole family and when Freddie was around we all shined. When Russ was 17 we all took a trip to Erie Pa. He drug his life long batboy on the field with him and spent 3 days trying out for the Pittsburg Pirates. At the end of the try out two player stood on pitchers mound, their fathers, the main scout from the Pirates, and me. We got a verble offer that day to play for the pirates. He played the sax and was good, great. Lots of practice for a long time, years and I was there by his side. High school graduation, collage, enter the work force and do well. He and his high school sweet heart got married and had their family. Many years later we totally drifted apart, and it was tough. Families were affected and we were both sad about that. Actually ashamed, we tried quite a few times to talk it out, but didn't make it happen. I never stopped missing what we had. I saw for years how happy he was with his kids and grandkids and Linda, thats what mattered. Russell Edward Horwath is a special person to many people, always been that way. I love you brother, you were my hero. And although your body is broke beyond repair, your spirit and energy goes on and is part of me. So tie up your spikes and get out to center field and chase down them fly balls and never forget, when it came to bowling, you couldnt carry my....thanks for the lessons and all you tought me. I will be lookin for ya
