Robert L McGuire's Obituary
Robert L. McGuire, son of Freda Weber McGuire and William J. McGuire passed away peacefully on February 13, 2015. Mr. McGuire was born on December 19, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a graduate of East High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a Petty Officer on a minesweeper from 1952-1956.
After serving his country, Mr. McGuire was employed as a machinist for Commercial Intertech for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member and usher of St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge and also a member of the Niles Scope Seniors.
Mr. McGuire was an avid cribbage player and founded the Youngstown Cribbage Club in 1986, where he served as President for several years. He was a member of the American Cribbage Congress and was a judge at numerous tournaments. He taught many people, young and old, to play and enjoy the game of Cribbage.
Mr. McGuire was a skilled furniture craftsman, making furniture for his family members, especially for his beloved grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, the former Rosemarie G. Osso, whom he married on April 12, 1958; four children, Robert Mark McGuire of Virginia, Karen Lee Cook of Strongsville, Michael John (Carolyn) McGuire of Twinsburg, and David William McGuire and Thomas Dennis of San Francisco; five grandchildren, Deanna Lombardo, Alyssa Rose Cook, Rachel Smith, Jaclyn Palumbo, Robert Lee McGuire, and 1 great-grandchild. He also leaves a brother William (Berta) McGuire of Poland, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Saturday, April 18th at 4:00 PM at St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge.
