Richard F. Abramczyk's Obituary
Richard F. Abramczyk, age 78, born on 1/1/1939 to James & Mary Anna (nee Kontor), went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, Joanne, on 5/15/2017. Richard was the beloved husband for 54 years to Joanne M. (nee Perney), a devoted father to Sheryl A. Yankovich (Paul, deceased), David E. (Wendy) & Robert J. (Franceska), a cherished grandfather to Alex, Eric, Mason & Ava and a loving brother to Marie Ann Charek (Jack). He graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary School in 1952 and Garfield Hts. High School in 1956. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Fenn College in 1962. He was first employed as Test Engineer by the American Gas Association for about 5 years. Next he was employed for 17 years as a Project Engineer at the Republic Steel Research Center. This was followed by 20 years as an Electrical Engineer, working for several contracting firms for the NASA Glenn Research Center. One of the most notable projects on which he worked, as the Lead Electrical Engineer, was the Isothermal Dendritic Growth Experiment (IDGE), that had 3 successful flights aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia. Among his favorite outdoor activities were bicycling, hiking, skiing and camping. He was involved in church activities at Holy Family Parish in Parma & St. Ambrose Parish in Brunswick. Rich and Joanne did much traveling throughout the United States and Canada, and also Italy, much of it was done in an RV. After retirement, he kept active, volunteering on the Building & Grounds Committee at St. Ambrose Parish and helping friends and family with maintenance activities. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ambrose Church on SATURDAY, May 20, 2017 at 11AM, family will receive friends one hour prior to Mass. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cuyahoga Hts. will be determined at a later date. Family will receive friends at Jardine Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Rd, Strongsville FRIDAY, May 19, 2017 from 4-8PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Ambrose Catholic Works of Mercy, 929 Pearl Rd., Brunswick, OH. www.jardinefh.com
