Paul Richard Vavruska's Obituary
On his 70th birthday, September 12, 2025, Paul Richard Vavruska entered eternal life and was reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Beverly, who preceded him in death in 2018 after 33 years of marriage.
Born in Strongsville, Ohio, on September 12, 1955, Paul was the son of Gerald and Mildred Vavruska. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Dia) Vavruska, with daughters Lillian and Anna, and Daniel Vavruska. He is also survived by his brothers Gerard, Mark, Jeffery, and Robert, along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
After attending St. John’s College, a junior college in Winfield, Kansas, Paul was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1975. He spent several years pitching in their farm system for teams including the Bristol Tigers, Clinton Pilots, Lakeland Tigers, and Montgomery Rebels from 1975 to 1978. He loved the game of baseball, which continued well beyond his career. Paul passed on that love to his sons, teaching them the game and coaching their youth sports teams.
Paul went on to work more than 30 years for the City of Strongsville Service Department. After retiring, he devoted himself to caring for his wife Beverly with deep and faithful love. Their story began with a chance meeting at Put-In-Bay that blossomed into a lifelong example of true devotion and partnership.
He was known for hosting legendary pig roasts, camping with his sons, and enjoying time outdoors hunting. Paul loved golf and played multiple times a week right up until the end of his life. Nothing could keep him off the links—not snow, rain, or even his illness. His granddaughters were the light of his later years, and he delighted in every moment spent with them. Above all, Paul lived with a steadfast faith in Christ, which guided his steps and gave him hope.
Family and friends are invited to Jardine’s Funeral Home in Strongsville for visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 9:00–10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m.
Flowers may be sent to Jardine’s Funeral Home in Paul’s memory.
