Dear Dorothy, Harry Sr., Harry Jr., James and family:
My deepest condolences to you. How painful it must be to endure this loss so unexpectedly and without reason that we can understand. A painfully premature calling home.
I did not have the pleasure of knowing Patrick as a young man in the same way I knew Harry and James! However, I do have two distinct memories of him.
The first was at a school sporting event. My mom was there with Steven I believe. I can't recall exactly where the match was taking place. I was home from medical school and was excited to see you so I went to say hello. You had recently found out you were (surprise) pregnant - and it was to be Patrick. You were not in a chatty mood at the moment; a "diaper free" life had just been on the horizon" so to speak. I thought "Hmmmm, maybe it's a girl."
With the other memory of Patrick, and the last time I ever saw him, he was in his high chair, apparently finished or not interested in his meal, tossing food. I think you were making pierogi or something for dinner. He was darling and cute; food tossing and all. I don't think you found the food tossing very cute so instruction was provided as to the choices available at the moment. Handsome little boy with dark hair like his older brother, Harry.
Your family was both a large part of my growing up and a positive influence on me in ways you'll never know and for that I thank you.
I have thought about you all many times over the years. I give you all a 'long distance' embrace for support in your sorrow. I give you many, many prayers.
Peace be with you.
Love,
Laura DeWitt-O'Callaghan
