Neil R. Toohey's Obituary
Neil R. Toohey – aka Dad, Pops, Steel Neil and Value Neil – rode his motorcycle into the proverbial sunset on July 19 and entered into final rest on July 22.
Beloved husband of Pat (nee Wagner); loving father of Erin (Chris), Ryan (Michelle); Pops to Ava, Owen, Lucas and Loren; brother of Joyce (Dennis), Maureen (John), Donna (Ward), and Patrick; uncle, cousin and friend to many. Preceded in death by his parents Marguerite and Robert Toohey
He was the first to the dance floor and the last to leave a party and came armed with some fierce dance moves. He was wise, intuitive, curious, genuine in his interactions and conversations, generous with his time, invested in his interests and hobbies, used food as his love language, loved a cold beer but loved a good deal more. He took pleasure and purpose in helping people and never kept a scorecard for all he did. If the sum of good deeds buys a ticket to heaven, it would make sense why he rode off to his next adventure at the tender age of 68.
He always said what was on his mind and never gave an empty compliment. He hated organized fun which meant that he found joy in the everyday. He gave the strongest hugs and always held on a second longer and breathed in a little deeper so you know he was taking the moment in.
While there is never enough time with the ones we love, we are comforted in knowing that he gave 100% of his attention to whoever he was talking to or spending time with.
Friends are welcome to an Irish wake of Steel Neil’s life on Tuesday, July 27 from 3-7PM at Jardine Funeral Home at 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. Bring good stories and big hugs. Celebration of life on Wednesday, July 28 at 11:30AM at St Joseph Catholic Church at 12700 Pearl Road, Strongsville.
In lieu of flowers, we know Pops would have deferred to his grandkids on a charity of choice. They have selected St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We also ask that you keep Steel Neil’s spirit eternal and take the time to tell someone you love them or they make you proud, help someone even if they haven’t helped you the same amount, hug a little more and a little longer and find joy in the everyday moments.
