Leroy "Roy" Walkup's Obituary
Roy Walkup, 93, of Strongsville, OH, died at Hospice Services of Southwest General on Saturday, September 27, 2014. He was born on June 10, 1921, in Cleveland, OH. His parents, Guy and Agnes Walkup, his wife of 60 years, Margaret, and his brothers, Bruce and Harry, preceded him in death. Roy was a 1939 graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland, OH. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. He served during WWII as a radio operator in a B-24 and completed 50 missions as part of the 460th Bombardment Group in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart. He obtained the rank of Tech Sergeant prior to discharge. After 3 years of active duty, he returned home to Cleveland, OH. The majority of his professional career was as an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance. He retired from that position in 1988 after 25 years. He is survived by two daughters, Laraine “Laurie” I. Graff of Strongsville, OH, and Bonnie L. McKenzie (Husband Jim) of Elizabethtown, PA, three grandchildren,
Nate Graff (Wife Erica) of Worthington, OH, Anne McKenzie Garber (Husband Greg) of Elizabethtown, PA, Jock Graff (Wife Stacy) of Lewis Center, OH, and six great grandchildren– Mitchell, Olivia, Julia, Noah, Eva, and Cooper. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm WEDNESDAY, October 1, 2014 at Jardine Funeral Home (15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville, OH, 44136). A Funeral Service THURSDAY 10:30AM at Jardine’s. Interment will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Hospice Services of Southwest General, 18659 Drake Road, Strongsville, OH, 44136, or other charitable organizations of the donors’ choice.
