Kathleen Sedory's Obituary
Kathleen Sedory, age 92, passed away on June 10, 2024, in Oakland, NJ. A 53-year resident of Strongsville, OH, Kathleen was born Sept 25, 1931, in Buffalo, NY, the only child of Thomas J and Ellen M (Desmond) Woods. At age 9, her family moved to Cleveland Heights, OH, where she attended St Ann Grade School and Beaumont High School. She graduated in 1953 from Ursuline College with a BA and received a teaching certificate from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1954. She taught art at Brownell and Charles W Eliot junior high schools for several years before changing careers to work at Tom Sinks as a home decorator. In 1963, she married Allen R Sedory and became a homemaker and mother.
She loved to learn about the history of things. This led to decades of “antiquing,” finding unique items, researching the history, and sometimes even learning other languages to find the source of knowledge for the item. A woman of deep Catholic faith, she lost the love of her life and best friend, Allen, in 2019. She is survived by her children Caroline Waterman (Howard) of Wayne, NJ; Tom (Kelly) of Portland, OR; and Janet Kolokithas (Sotirios) of Mechanicsburg, PA; and seven grandchildren: Samantha, Alex and Lily Waterman; Mia and Teagan Sedory; and Sophia and Panos Kolokithas.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at St John Neumann, Strongsville, at 11:00am on SATURDAY, June 22. Internment at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City will follow. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Augustine Hunger Center.
