My favorite memory of Josh is when he came out with Grandma Roach to Spokane to spend a few weeks while my parents were away for what I believe was the summer of my 6th-grade year in school. Being out here in Washington and so far away from the rest of the family his coming meant the world to me, so to prep for his arrival I went out of my way to pick the nicest and cleanest crossing guard uniform with the big silver captain badge to impress him when he and Grandma walked to my elementary school that day. He wasn't impressed, but that hug was sure genuine.
We spent the rest of that time going on walks at abandoned farmhouses and hunting for natural springs, teaming up to avoid Grandma when she was waving the broom around at us for tracking dirt in and laughing.
Each time I saw him after at a family event or wedding, it felt like we were kids again. There was his gentle thoughtfulness and his wit. My heart is with you all.
