John Kiefer's Obituary
John Edward Kiefer Sr. passed away September 12, 2016. He was 96. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Marie T. Kiefer 1925-2013 (nee Navartil). He was born in Cleveland on July 10, 1920, the son of Harry J. Kiefer Sr. 1889-1973 and Marie Eva Kiefer 1892-1930 (nee Kircher) and stepmother Sarah G. Kiefer (nee Williams). He was the younger brother of Dr. Harry J. Kiefer Jr. 1916-2003 (Louise). John was the cherished father of John Jr. (Marilyn), Jane Banks (Tim), Thomas Sr. (Karen), and James Sr. (Michelle), the devoted grandfather of Evelyn, John III, David, Steve, Thomas Jr., Kathryn, Joseph, James Jr., and Kassidy and a loving great-grandfather to Claes, Max, Clara, and Dylan. John will always be remembered as a man who was never idle, he truly enjoyed his family, his work and his hobbies. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served in the Pacific. Later he started a successful Tool and Die business with his three sons, where he worked until his late 80s. His sons continue the business today. John was an avid gardener and particularly liked growing peaches, many summers he had bushels of delicious fruit to give to family and friends. John and Marie spent most weekends in Marblehead, Ohio and later spent the winters in Marathon Key, Florida. John shared his love of power boating and fishing with his wife and children. For his grandchildren, who visited him often, he provided the means for infinite adventure. His family is very grateful to have had so many happy years with him.
