Joe Mackey's Obituary
Joe was born in Akron, Ohio to the late Hortense and Harold Mackey. His first teaching and coaching job was at his high school alma mater, Akron St. Vincent. In 1966, he accepted the teaching and basketball coaching position at Lakewood St. Edwards. In 2001, he was elected into the St. Edward Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements as teacher, coach, Dean of Men, and athletic director. Joe was managing partner and part owner of Parmatown Nautilus and Omni Fitness where he helped many achieve their physical fitness goals. He enjoyed participating in many triathlons and did the Iron Man at age 50. He will be remembered for his love of family and his many friends, his humor and wit, and great smile. Joe will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn; their children Sue, Mike (Sara), Michelle Mackey-Sawyer (Jeremiah), and Joe. Eleven grandchildren, Matt, Stephanie, Olivia, Hanna, Grace, Jake, Luke, Nate, Hope, Trevor, and Alexa; brother Larry (Vickie), Harold, and sister Mary; stepfather Gene Walker (deceased); stepbrothers Terry (Marlene), Tom (Vicki), brother-in-law Tom (Lorene) as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family thanks Cleveland Clinic Hospice at Home for their compassionate care. VISITATION SUNDAY 2-8PM at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 PEARL RD, STRONGSVILLE.
