My Uncle Jeff was more than just family. He was a fellow golf enthusiast, a poker buddy, a confidant and a friend. I only once got to go on an extended golf trip with him and regret the fact that it wasn't more. But he was a member of the first group I ever travelled with to Myrtle Beach and that trip still stands out as my favorite. Watching him pound a banana split after we had just eaten a buffet dinner was impressive given the build Jeff always had.
They say the measure of a man is the number of people whose lives he touched. I know before even attending this weekends gatherings that I will fall woefully short of my Uncle Jeff. I always knew him as this positive influence in all interactions. Calm and cool in all situations with an intellect to help guide him through the challenges of life whether they were his or yours. I will truly miss him at family gatherings, around the golf course, as my partner in leading Klub Kolis and as a poker buddy in the winter.
Even after a couple of days have now past I still find it hard to believe that I won't be seeing him again sometime in the very near future. The good news for us is that we are all the better for having known him and his legacy is passed on through his family whom we will all still be able to gather with and share stories of his life. We'll miss you Uncle Jeff ... hit em straight!
