Janice M. Johnson's Obituary
Janice M. Johnson, age 89, of Amsterdam, Ohio, passed away on August 3, 2026. She was born on May 5, 1937, in Amsterdam, Ohio, to the late Walter and Anna (Laskowski) and lived a life marked by love, creativity, and devotion to her family and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. She started and raised her family in Mayfield Heights, and then retired to Ocala, FL.
Janice was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose presence brought warmth and comfort to those around her. She was the beloved mother of Rebecca (Michael) Pozna and Katherine (Gary) Wasil. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Sean (Andrea) Rupp, Adam Rupp, and Kevin Rupp, who held a special place in her heart. Her family continued to grow with the blessing of her great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Hannah, Jordan, and Miley, as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Wrenlee. She is also survived by her brother, John (Karen) Niemiec, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will forever treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard M. Johnson; parents, Walter and Anna Niemiec, and her siblings, Walter Niemiec, Annette Petrozzi, Thomas Niemiec, and Barton Niemiec. Their memories remained close to her throughout her life, and she carried the strength of her family heritage with grace and dignity.
Janice was a woman of many interests and talents. She found joy in reading, camping, sewing, crafting, baking, and watching western movies. She especially enjoyed bird watching and had a deep love for dogs, which brought her companionship and happiness over the years.
Janice will be laid to rest with her husband at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
