Janet L. McCollom's Obituary
Janet (Ursick) Mccollom, age 75, of Brunswick, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 12, 2025.
She was the beloved wife of the late James “Jamie” Mccollom and the devoted mother of Melissa Cegelski (Jim) and Maureen Gaeta (Michael). Janet was the cherished grandmother of Madeline and Morgan Gaeta, who were the true light of her life, and the proud “grandma” to her grand-dogs, Waldo and Petunia.
Janet is also survived by her brothers Ray Ursick (Judy) and Gary Ursick (Arlene), her sister-in-law Susan McCollom, and was preceded in death by her brother Dennis Ursick (Mary Ann) She will also be remembered fondly by her many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Her lifelong friends Linda and Dieter Schors were her rocks and constant companions through more than sixty years of friendship. Their kindness, loyalty, and selflessness carried Janet through life’s most difficult moments, especially after the passing of her beloved Jamie. Their steadfast presence and unwavering love were not only a source of strength and comfort—they truly were her family.
Janet worked for the City of Brunswick, where she built lasting friendships through her dedication and kindness. She found joy on the golf course, whether playing with her league or sharing laughter with friends. After her retirement, Janet embraced her passions—perfecting sourdough bread, experimenting with countless flavors of zucchini bread, and baking her famously delectable pizzelles. She also lovingly cared for her garden, which Linda and Dieter helped her build, finding peace in its daily care.
Janet will be remembered for her warmth, her quiet humor, and her devotion to the people she loved. Her absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her.
