James Russell Gist's Obituary
James "Jim" Russell Gist, 68, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2022. He was surrounded by his children and loving wife of 46 years. Jim was born in Bethesda, Maryland to John Russell and Jean Ann (Schoeler) Gist. Jim graduated from Start High School (72) and the University of Toledo (76).
He is survived by his wife, Sheri (White), his children Nathan (Amber) and Corinne, his beloved grandchildren Lexie and Welkin Gist, his sister, Lynn (Larry) Golba, and brother, Scott (Jean), his nephew Griffin, and Eva and Jacob Curtis.
Jim was a successful salesman retiring from Xerox over 10 years ago. During his retirement, Jim continued to stay busy. He was an active member of Kiwanis of Strongsville, a beloved mentor for Kids Hopes, and a regular volunteer with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Jim was an avid biker and took full advantage of the beautiful MetroParks of Northeast, Ohio. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, and learning as much as possible about US history. Jim was raised in the Lutheran church and his faith continued to be important to him throughout his life. He was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church of Strongsville. Nothing was more important to Jim than spending time with his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, brother, father, and grandfather. Jim was happiest when he was surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, from 11:00am-12:30pm, followed by a memorial service at 12:30pm and a luncheon directly following the service. The visitation, service, and luncheon will all be held at First Lutheran Church of Strongsville, 19419 Royalton Rd, Strongsville, OH 44149.
