Jack L. Eck's Obituary
Jack L. Eck, 87, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and family on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Jack was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle to many. Born on December 31, 1938, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was the third of six children to Carl and Alpharetta (Rusty) Eck.
Jack honorably served in the U.S. Air Force and afterwards worked at RCA in Cambridge, Ohio where he met and married Marjorie (Farrar) Eck. Shortly afterwards, he started his career with the U.S. government where he went on to become the Deputy Director for DCASR in Cleveland, Ohio until retirement. During this time, he and Marjorie raised three children: Todd, Ashley, and Tyne and pursued his love of learning. Jack earned two master’s degrees, one from Cornell University and the other from Xavier. His commitment to education further led him to attend the National War College in Washington, D.C.
Jack’s life was filled with family, friends and good times. Maybe it had something to do with being born on New Year’s Eve, but he loved getting together with his family and friends, enjoying good conversations and a lot of laughs (and a well-made seven and seven). He loved playing sports; baseball, basketball, golf and the occasional poker game. As an avid golfer who played in many leagues, there were days when he made more friends on the course than he did par but that never stopped his love of the game. He dedicated many summers volunteering alongside his grandchildren in the junior golf leagues at Columbia Hills Country Club. A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he proudly sported his team's shirts and hats, much to the dismay of his Cleveland friends. Jack loved baseball and to the surprise of his Pennsylvania family, became a fan of the Cleveland Indians where he and his daughter Tyne ‘TJ’ were season ticket holders.
Jack will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by his surviving children Todd, Ashley (Eddie) McDonough, his grandchildren Connor and Bailey, his sister Dianna (Don) Mack and his many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Rusty, brothers Ed and Paul, sisters Judy and Carlene and his beloved daughter Tyne ‘TJ’.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 1 at the Strongsville United Methodist Church, 13500 Royalton Road, Strongsville, Ohio. Calling hours will be 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the “One of a Kind Pet Rescue” in Akron, Ohio at https://www.oneofakindpets.com.
