Irene G. Urbansok's Obituary
Irene Dovala Urbansok departed this life to be with her Lord and her deceased loved ones on October 4th, 2023 at the age of 99 years 7 months. She was the last surviving child of the late John and Julia (Mraz) Dovala of Lorain, Ohio.
Irene also was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, George Urbansok; her sister Mary Dovala Fassinger (Walter Fassinger, d); her brother Emil Dovala (Dorothy Dovala, d); her nephew Wayne Dovala; and her infant great-grandson William Justin Eads. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Carole O’Brien (Joseph “Pete”) of Richmond VA and Deborah Schultis (William “Bill”) of Cleveland; grandsons Jonathan Schultis of Houston TX and Christopher Eads (Kimberly) of North Granby CT; great-grand daughter Elizabeth Eads of North Granby CT; nieces Linda Dovala Milchen (William, d), Cynthia Dovala, Laurie Urbansok Shannon (Terry) of Livonia MI; and nephews Donald Urbansok (Rosaline, d) and Dennis Dovala (Laurie); cousins Joan Mraz Armstrong of Canada (Cy, d), Irene Mraz Hopkins (Kenneth, d) of Ohio, and Albert Mraz of Canada.
Irene had a career in billing and accounting with Bendix Westinghouse, Elyria OH and experience in retail with Mallard Bay of Strongsville OH during retirement, O’Neill’s of Lorain-Sheffield, and her father’s John Dovala Groceries, Meats and Poultry (Globe Ave, Lorain OH) while she attended Lorain High School. Irene was a devout member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church (Lorain) of which her father was a founding member and First Lutheran Church of Strongsville. Irene served as Sunday School teacher and junior choir director at Christ Lutheran (Lorain). She was well known for her vocal talent as a soloist at many weddings and with the senior choirs at both Christ Lutheran and First Lutheran. If you truly knew Irene, you knew her great passion was to sing! Irene loved entertaining and was well-known as hostess for her Ladies’ Club Card Parties and Teas, for service as chaplain for the Elyria Professional Women’s Club and especially for her Christmas Eve get togethers for family and friends. Irene was a steadfast friend of many throughout her life and a reliable and nurturing presence in the lives of her daughters and their families. Irene was tenacious and a vivacious redhead who loved a challenge, any opportunity to travel and to contribute wherever she could help.
