Herb J. Pauly's Obituary
Herb J. Pauly, 73, passed away on April 25, 2024. He is survived by his beloved wife, Meg B. Pauly; they treasured every day of their too short 14 years together. Herb was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, the late Lynn Pauly (nee Taylor). He was the devoted father of Herb T. Pauly (Bridget) and Heather Pauly Schmidt, and he was a loving stepfather to Caitlin B. Chandler (Jason) and Kyle Brown (Melissa).
Herb was the son of the late Herbert E. and Bonnie Pauly. He is survived by his cherished siblings, Lorrie Hamar (the late Ted), Dawn Vincek (the late Joseph), Kathy Hambleton (Marc) and was preceded in death by his brother, the late Tom Pauly. He was a caring brother-in-law to Nancy Burritt, Susan Grundler (Bill), and Kate Winslow (Gary).
Herb was a treasured grandfather to Noah (Marilin), H. Quinn, Declan, Garren, Evan, Catherine, Colin, Ryan, and a new grandchild, Baby Brown, expected in May. He was also an adoring great-grandfather to Adaline. He was a deeply loved uncle to an abundance of nieces and nephews. The impact he had on all their lives and the memories made will be held tightly in their hearts forever.
Professionally, Herb was a self-made man, starting at a young age with several newspaper routes, working his way up through many operations and manufacturing roles and ultimately earning his well-deserved success as the owner and operator of Eagle Industries for the past 24 years.
A graduate of Cleveland’s South High School, Class of 1969, Herb had an unmatched drive and work ethic and a talent and passion for basketball. That combination led him to become a Senate League star at South High. He continued to play the game for decades, well into his 60s. Along the way, he also found a love for coaching basketball at Strongsville High School and was head coach for the freshmen boys’ team for many years. The number of friends he made and the lives of players he impacted through the game is endless.
Herb was a gregarious spirit and a friend to everyone he met. He knew the names of every person in the local coffee shop, his neighborhood, and he never forgot a soul. He was infamous for knowing someone everywhere he went, and if he didn’t when he arrived, he certainly did before he left! He was an incredible source of compassion toward everyone he knew. He had a deep concern for the world and was determined to make his loving mark on it. That he did.
Herb loved fiercely and forever, and he will be missed, fiercely and forever.
The family invites visitors to celebrate Herb’s life on Sunday, May 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Strongsville Recreation Center.
