Gretchen Ann Schumacher's Obituary
It is with love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Gretchen Ann Schumacher, who passed away at the age of 91 on March 10, 2026.
She was a woman known for her grace, warmth, and vibrant spirit. Always impeccably dressed and ready to engage with those around her, she brought energy and joy wherever she went. She was a social and active member of her community and greatly enjoyed participating in her HOA and neighborhood events, where she formed many lasting friendships.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She attended weekly Bible Study and lived her beliefs through kindness, compassion, and generosity towards others.
Above all else, she was a devoted mother, wife, and was the heart of her family. She raised seven children with love, strength and wisdom, always guiding them with patience and a touch of her well-known wit. Her legacy will continue through her large and loving family.
Gretchen was married to Paul J. Schumacher Sr. for 31 years and he died in 1989. She never remarried, and would often cry when talking about him.
Gretchen is survived by her children: Jean (Roland) Rodriguez, Paul (Mary) Schumacher, Lisa (Alex) Deak, Karen (Keith) Bakos, Jack (Sarah Chard) Schumacher, Mark (Cathy) Schumacher, and Ellen (Mike) Walker; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sisters: Marina (Jon) Scott, and Ellen Koessler.
Gretchen is preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Schumacher Sr., and parents, Joseph and Helen Klausman.
She will be remembered for her grace, her lively personality, her unwavering faith, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial gathering will take place from 9 - 10 AM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Brunswick. A funeral mass will begin at 10 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
