Glen Edward McDonald's Obituary
Glen Edward McDonald, a resident of Strongsville since 1948, died on January 30, 2023 at Altenheim Senior Living.
He was born on May 16, 1916 to the late Edward C. and Elizabeth (nee Ainsworth) McDonald in Brooklyn, New York. He attended grade school and his childhood was spent in Port Leyden and Boonville, NY. He graduated from Utica Free Academy in Utica, NY and, in 1939, from Colgate University.
He received a master’s degree in chemistry at the University of Rochester in 1948 and then moved to Strongsville to spend a long career as an engineer and scientist at NASA Lewis Research Center until his retirement. During his career he worked on a number of projects including exotic fuels for jet engines, nuclear propulsion for interplanetary space missions, and solar energy collection and was the inventor on several patents.
He was married to Barbara Barnes who died in 1988. They had two children, Barbara E and Edward N.
He is survived by his son Edward N. McDonald MD (Mary Haverfield), granddaughters Elizabeth McDonald (Mike Rotondo) and Katherine McDonald MD (Travis Eret), great-granddaughter Flora Rotondo, sister-in-law Joyce Jackson, and several generations of Jackson nieces and nephews.
ALL SERVICES SATURDAY MARCH 4, 2023. VISITATION SATURDAY 2PM-4PM with Words of Remembrance to begin at 3PM at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 PEARL RD, STRONGSVILLE, OH 44136. Burial will be in Port Leyden, NY after the cemetery opens in May with a private graveside ceremony for family members.
