George Mellon Reed's Obituary
George Mellon Reed, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026. Born on July 15, 1935, in South Fork, PA. George lived a life rich in love, friendship, laughter, and cherished memories.
George was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for family, friendship, and the outdoors defined a life well lived. He shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce Reed, affectionately known as “The Redhead.” The two met while working at General Motors and built a beautiful life together in Strongsville. Their marriage was marked by unwavering loyalty, deep love, and a lifetime of shared adventures and memories.
An avid golfer and birdwatcher, George found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a loyal fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Guardians, proudly wearing his favorite Guardians baseball cap right up until his final days.
George was a storyteller at heart. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for connecting with people wherever he went. Whether sharing stories over coffee at the Donut Scene in Strongsville, chatting with coworkers during his years at General Motors, exchanging high-fives and fist bumps with friends from his golf and bowling leagues, or greeting neighbors while gardening and walking through High Point, George made every encounter meaningful. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Golf was one of George's greatest passions. Over the course of his life, he achieved the remarkable feat of five hole-in-ones, including his final one at the age of 89. He loved attending professional golf tournaments, watching golf on television, and spending time on the fairways of Pine Hills Golf Club, a place that held a special place in his heart.
Although George ultimately lost his battle with Dementia, he faced the challenges of his final years with the same spirited determination that characterized his life. True to form, he kept the staff at Cardinal Court on their toes and undoubtedly gave them a run for their money, sharing smiles, stories, and a bit of mischief along the way.
George's humor, kindness, stories, and unmistakable spark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched through his generosity, laughter, and genuine love of people.
May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing and joy to those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Jardine Funeral Home, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Strongsville United Church of Christ. Burial will be private.
