Eugene W. Ryan's Obituary
Eugene “Gene” William Ryan, 94, Strongsville, Ohio passed away September 24, 2016 at Journeycare Hospice in Glenview, IL, from acute leukemia. Gene was born on August 7, 1922 in Rockford, IL, one of James and Josephine Ryan’s eight children. He graduated from St. Thomas High School in Rockford, IL and St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, IN. Private Ryan served his country 152nd Signal Company of the U.S. Army’s 12th Armored Division under General Patton in WWII in France and Germany. Following the war, Gene completed his Master’s Degree. His professional employment as an internal auditor at Houdaille Industries led him to progress to Assistant Controller, Corporate Controller and General Manager, all in various areas of manufacturing for several companies. He retired from Gibson-Homans in 1986. He married Geraldine Frances Brinkoetter in 1953 and had 4 children. Gene was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. John Neumann’s Church. Gene’s hobbies included golf, bocce, gardening and singing in the church choir. Gene was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his children Patricia (Steve) Ryan Fouts, James J. Ryan, Mary Kay Schneider, Michael (Michelle) Ryan; his grandchildren Brandon Kirkileas, Lauren Schneider, Zachary Kirkilas, Lindsey Schneider, Daniel Ryan and Alyssa Ryan; his sisters Veronica Pheney, Mary Claire Fane and Kathryn Keyes and will also be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 PEARL RD., Strongsville on THURSDAY, September 29th from 4-8PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 30th at 10AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Strongsville with burial at Strongsville Cemetery immediately following.
