Ethel Jean Thom's Obituary
Ethel Jean Thom, educator, founding member and secretary of Strongsville Community Theatre, Inc., and long-time secretary of The Cliffs Condominium Association died August 22, 2019. Jean was a graduate of East High School, Kent State University, and Columbia University where she earned her Master’s degree in Teaching of Mathematics. She was an employee of the Cleveland Public Schools teaching emotionally disturbed girls at Blossom Hill School and then a mathematics teacher before moving to the central office where she was a Research Associate, Coordinator of the Accelerated Mathematics Program, Supervisor of the Major Work Program and Educational Program Manager of Secondary Mathematics. After retiring from Cleveland, she was an assistant professor at Allegheny College. Upon retirement from Allegheny, Jean worked briefly at Cleveland State and volunteered in the G.E.D. program of the Strongsville City Schools. Her interest in theater led to involvement with Strongsville Community Theatre where she served as secretary of the Board of Trustees and Box Office Manager, from its inception. Family and friends gathered for a private Celebration of Life enjoying stories and touting her attention to detail which served her and the community well.
