With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Emilia “Emy” Mary Barr, 70, who was called home to Heaven on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 8:15 AM. Surrounded by the endless love of her devoted family, Emy transitioned peacefully to her eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and inspiration that will shine forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Life of Love and Devotion
Emy is the beloved wife of Bob Barr, the treasured mother of Tina Whitesell and Amy Wilkens, the cherished sister of Mario Talarico, the cherished Mother-in-law of Todd Whitesell and Matthew Wilkens, and the adored Grandmother “Mana” to three grandchildren, Ethan and Hanna Whitesell, and Violet Wilkens. Emy, was a bestfriend, soulmate, and beloved companion to her family members, and a true inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
A Warrior’s Spirit
Fourteen years ago, when faced with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis and a prognosis of only 6-12 months, Emy did what she always did—she defied the odds with unwavering determination and positivity. With characteristic grace and strength, she not only fought her own battle but reached out to help others facing the same struggle. Her 14 additional years were a testament to her incredible will to live and her refusal to let anything diminish her unwavering optimism and vivacious spirit.
A Life Lived to the Fullest
Emy celebrated life with unmatched enthusiasm. She was the ultimate planner, always organizing gatherings that brought family and friends together. Her home was filled with laughter, dancing, singing, and the aromas of homemade pasta, cannolis, and pizzelles. It was never a dull moment beside her. Every moment spent with Emy was vibrant and memorable, reflecting her belief that life was meant to be lived joyfully.
A Heart for Service
Throughout her 70 years, Emy touched countless lives through her boundless kindness and generosity. Whether showing compassion to strangers or caring for her closest friends and loved ones, her love knew no limits. Mana was a dedicated youth volunteer with her children and grandchildren, most notably at their schools, Girl Scouts, Kemper House, Camp Cheerful, animal rescue groups, and many non-profit organizations for various causes. She was the biggest fan of all her children, passionately cheering them on at music and sporting events, supporting their academic successes, and being there for every activity imaginable with pride and dedication. She was a compassionate caregiver to all, instantly making herself available to anyone in need of helping hands. Her selfless spirit and gentle way with all living beings left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
An Extraordinary Achiever
Emy’s ambition and talents were truly immeasurable. She was an exceptional homemaker who created a loving sanctuary for her family, but her achievements extended far beyond. As an inspiring entrepreneur, she owned, operated, and managed numerous successful businesses alongside her family and friends for most of her life in various greater Cleveland communities, as well as becoming a cosmetologist, and real estate agent over the years. Those closest to her, always remark on her endless talents as an amazing decorator, chef, gardener, florist, event planner, among many other roles. Her daughters and husband fondly refer to her as the most inspiring person they ever met. She accomplished anything she set her mind to.
A Beautiful Garden of Love
Like the colorful, enchanting garden she lovingly tended at her home, Emy planted seeds of happiness, hope, and love wherever she went. Her nurturing spirit helped her family and friends blossom, creating a legacy that will continue to grow through generations. Her wisdom, guidance, and unwavering belief in tomorrow created a foundation of strength that will support her loved ones always.
A Peaceful Farewell
In her final days, even while facing illness, Emy’s first concern remained the happiness and well-being of others. True to her character, she kept her promises and shared precious final moments with her family. With both her daughters standing by her side, Emy’s eyes lit up with joy and love telling them how much she loved them. Her last words, spoken after a meal, with a sweet, cheeky smile—“That’s enough now—Bye!”—captured her gentle humor and peaceful acceptance of her next journey to Heaven.
An Eternal Light
Emy’s sparkling eyes, cheerful rosy cheeks, and beautiful smile will never fade from memory. Her warm, loving arms that were always ready to embrace anyone in need will be felt forever in the hearts and dreams of those she loved. Her unconditional love, compassion, generosity, laughter, and inspirational spirit were truly once-in-a-lifetime gifts.
She was, in every sense, the heroine of her own beautiful story—a brave woman admired for her courage, inner beauty, and dedication to living life to the fullest. There will never be another Emy Barr, our Italian Mouse.
