Ellen Vanderwyst's Obituary
Ellen Vanderwyst, (née Edmondson), passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, in Strongsville, Ohio. Ellen shared 44 years with her late husband, Harry Vanderwyst.
A proud graduate of Strongsville High School in 1949, Ellen spent her life in her hometown of Strongsville, raising her family and maintaining lifelong friendships. Her passing leaves behind a legacy of memories that touched many.
Ellen's life was one of unwavering dedication to her family. She was the beloved mother of Chris Vanderwyst (Lynne), Boyd Vanderwyst (Fran), Rod Vanderwyst (Sue Barth), Bill Vanderwyst (Sandi), Scott Vanderwyst (Judy), Brian Vanderwyst (Nita), David Vanderwyst (Cheryl), Lisa Powers (Jason), and Holly Vanderwyst (Arno Muennich). Her nurturing spirit extended to being a grandmother of 25 and a great-grandmother of 27. To many, she was also the favorite aunt remembered with love.
Ellen lived her life with a passion that matched the vibrant gardens she so lovingly tended. Green-thumbed and flower-hearted, her gardens were a testament to her patience and care. Her love for the natural world shone through her enjoyment of birdwatching, which allowed her to marvel at the simple pleasures of life.
An avid reader, Ellen found joy in the pages of countless books. Her love for literature was matched by her love for puzzles, a hobby that displayed her sharp mind and her appreciation for life's intricate details.
Ellen cherished the simple delight of going out to lunch with friends and family, savoring moments of fellowship and good food. Her presence made any meal feel like a special occasion and her absence will be felt at every table she once graced.
