Elizabeth "Betty" Barranger's Obituary
Barranger, Elizabeth (Betty) – Age 96, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 21, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio, at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City. Visitation will be held from 9–10 AM prior to Mass at St. Ambrose Church.
Betty Barranger (Sheehy) was born on May 19, 1929, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mildred (Pflueger) and John Sheehy, sister to James Sheehy M.D. (deceased) and sister-in- law to Pat Sheehy. She graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a double major in Childhood Education and Music. While in college, Betty met the love of her life, John Barranger, who was serving in the Navy at the time. After graduation, Betty taught grade school in Washington, D.C., while John attended college.
Betty was a devoted wife and the loving mother of eight children. The family lived in several states before settling in Fairview Park. Once her children were older and in college, Betty taught microwave cooking classes at a local appliance store. For the past twenty years, she made her home in Brunswick Hills.
She enjoyed exercising, reading, cooking, and attending orchestra concerts. Betty traveled extensively with her husband and spent every winter at her condominium in Jensen Beach, Florida. She cherished her close-knit community at the Jensen Beach Club and loved the sound of the ocean and the warm breeze as a welcome escape from northern winters. In Florida, she delighted in watching shuttle launches from Cape Canaveral, thrift shopping, and sharing many activities with friends. She was always ready for an outing—shopping, concerts, or any opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
Betty will be deeply missed as a cherished companion, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters Anne (Mahmood) Ahmed of Medina, Linda (Tom) Sulkowski of Valley City, Theresa (Rob) Johnson of South Lebanon, Mary Beth Barranger, and Melissa (Jeffry) Mathys of Brecksville; her sons Paul of Austin, TX, Christopher (Isabel) of Whitmore Lake, MI, and Gregory (Rachelle) of Brighton, MI; nieces Kathleen Sheehy of Flint, MI, and Colleen (Steven) Glynn of Shrewsbury, MA; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all at St. Ambrose who made special arrangements for the Christmas Eve services, and a very special thank-you to the team of health care angels who provided exceptional care and support over the past several years.
