Duane J. Smith's Obituary
Duane J. Smith, passed away on April 6, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on August 22, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Duane was the beloved husband of 55 years to the late Marlene S. Smith. He was a loving father to Jennifer Smith and Tim Smith and his wife, Lisa. He was the son of the late Julius and Beatrice Smith. Duane was also a cherished grandfather to Kayla, Taylor, Jorden, Paige, Trystian, Greysin, and Cassydee, and a proud great-grandfather to Ceraphina, Elliott, Harrison, Wren, Louis, and Wyoming. His family brought him great joy, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
Duane devoted 34 years of his life to Baldwin Wallace College, where he was a respected and valued employee. His long career there reflected his strong work ethic, reliability, and genuine care for the institution and the people around him. He was especially involved in the college’s sports program, where his presence and support made a lasting impression. Duane understood the importance of teamwork, discipline, and encouragement, and he carried those values into every role he filled. His dedication helped strengthen the programs and relationships that made Baldwin Wallace College a meaningful part of his life.
Beyond his work at the college, Duane was active in community sports and took great interest in the Hot Stove league. His involvement reflected his love of athletics and his belief in the value of community connection. He enjoyed being part of activities that brought people together and created opportunities for young athletes and families to share in the spirit of the game.
VISITATION MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2026 from 4PM-8PM at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 PEARL RD, STRONGSVILLE. Funeral Service TUESDAY APRIL 14, 2026 at 10AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Berea. Interment Old Columbia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
