Donald W. Sycz's Obituary
Donald W. Sycz, 78, of Strongsville and most recently Akron, Ohio, passed away on April 10, 2024. The oldest of six children, Don was the son of the late Venedict and Mary Sycz, a proud Ukrainian family.
Nothing was more important to Don than his family. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Mary M. Sycz. He is survived by his dear wife, Jane Miles. Loving father of David V. Sycz (Amy) and Donna S. Burson (Bill). Cherished big brother to William (Nancy, deceased), Steven (Gail), Mary Ann Kovacevich (Thomas), Rosemary Tinfina (Daniel) and Michele Petrasek (Michael). Dear brother-in-law of John Clause (Mary Ann), Tom Norton (Karen Bradley), the late Judy Silva (Bob), the late Jack and Karen Norton, Mary Ann Petzold, and Chuck Norton (Christine). Cherished grandfather of Jessica, Jennifer, Brynn and Grady. Beloved cousin, uncle and friend to many.
To know Don, he was work personified. He could set his hand to any building project. In the words of one good friend, when building or fixing something, "Everybody wanted Don." He worked as a construction supervisor in the greater Cleveland/Akron area his whole life. He graduated from Fenn College of Engineering (now Cleveland State University) with a degree in civil engineering, a career that might have been foretold when he was a mere child of five years. At this young age, he received a gift from his grandfather, a toy tool set. He immediately decided to try and saw off the legs of his mother's dining room table. Don worked on many construction projects, too many to list, but he was most proud of the time he spent as a construction supervisor at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. In retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard and the city took notice of his efforts with several Keep Akron Beautiful awards presented each year at the end of the summer.
VISITATION will be held on SUNDAY, April 14th from 1pm - 3pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held, same day, beginning at 3pm, also at Jardine Funeral Home.
