Donald "Don" E. Knapp's Obituary
Donald E. Knapp, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Strongsville, Ohio, at the age of 78. Born on January 22, 1946, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Raymond and Agnes Knapp, Don's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for the outdoors, and his love of adventure.
Don was the beloved husband of Kathy Byers-Knapp, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage, having tied the knot on October 24, 1998. Their partnership was a testament to love and mutual respect, filled with shared interests and unwavering support. Together, they enjoyed spending time with their family, including children Kristina (Kevin) Cook, Scott (Nicole) Byers, and Shaun Knapp. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, always providing guidance and strength.
His siblings, Roberta (Nick) Oriti and Audrey, both preceded him in death. He was a pillar of support and a source of endless stories and laughter at family gatherings. The light of his life shone brightly through his grandchildren, Sarah, Jason, Samantha, and Derek, and his great-grandchildren, Malachi and Violet Rose.
Don proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of duty and resilience. His service was a point of pride and contributed to the strong values he held throughout his life.
An active member of the Ashtabula Rod and Gun Club, Don's love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. His happiest moments were often spent fishing, camping at Kool Lakes Campground, and simply enjoying nature's beauty. His adventurous spirit also found joy in the arts, as he and Kathy were regulars at Playhouse Square, indulging their love for the theatre. Travel was another of Don's passions, as he and Kathy journeyed across the country, visiting family and friends, creating lasting memories, and experiencing the diverse beauty of the United States.
Family was Don's rock, his presence was a source of comfort and reliability; he was always there when needed, offering a helping hand or a listening ear. His unwavering support and unconditional love were the foundation upon which his family thrived.
VISITATION will be held on WEDNESDAY, May 29th from 10am – 11am at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will take place, same day, at 11am. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 2:45pm on Wednesday.
