Donald F. Barta's Obituary
Donald F. Barta, 92, passed away on January 4, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 13, 1931, in Brooklyn, Ohio to the late Alfred and Sadie (nee Evans) Barta.
Don attended Our Lady of Good Counsel grade school. He then attended Brooklyn High School and graduated in the class of 1949. In November of 1951, Don joined the United States Air Force where he served our country until November of 1955.
On August 18, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 67 years, Janet (Dobson) Barta.
Don loved his family dearly. He was an active man who enjoyed running, ice skating, and coaching baseball and PeeWee football. He was a man of many trades and talents who taught himself to play the organ (with some help), and had been taking plane flying lessons for years with hopes to get his pilots license. His favorite place to be, since he was a child, was Put-in-Bay. He often shared memories with his family about camping there when he was a young boy. Don was a member of the Cranksters Model A Car Club and owned a 1931 Model A and a 1940 Ford Convertible. He was a devote Catholic and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for many years.
He is survived by his wife Janet Barta; children Dawn (David) Heinrichs, Scott (Michelle) Barta, Wayne (Coleen) Barta, and Amy (Frank) Fortuna; grandchildren Bethany (Wesley) Berg, Rich (Sarah) Gentry, Brittany Barta, Owen Barta, Nathan Barta, Austin Barta, Sam Fortuna, Kevin Barta, Brian Barta, and Susan Fortuna; 4 great grandchildren; and sister Doris (Edward- deceased) Krese.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Robert (Phyllis- survivng) Barta.
VISITATION will be held on THURSDAY, January 11th from 4pm – 7pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held on FRIDAY, January 12th at 11am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. 25801 Royalton Road, Columbia Station. Interment will take place at Old Columbia Cemetery.
