Dennis William Coltrane's Obituary
Dennis William Coltrane affectionately known as pops 69, Strongsville OH passed away Sunday April 23, 2017 at University Hospital from a stroke.
Mr. Coltrane was born August 12, 1947 in Barberton OH. He served two tours in Vietnam as a combat engineer in the Red Horse Unite, Chaplin’s assistant, and office manager. He also worked as a playground monitor and study hall monitor for Lorain City Schools for many years; he is remembered by many for the rainbow colored suspenders he used to wear. He also worked as a security guard for many years until health issues from his service in Vietnam he had to retire. Though his health issues were many he never complained, always had a smile on his face and joke to tell. He and his wife Hazel grew up together and married 1977. He was a loving father and father in law and doting grandfather. He was a devoted member of Southwest Baptist Church in Brunswick.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Erika Lynn, Parents Joseph and Beulah Arlene Coltrane, Sister Carolyn Coltrane, and Brother Joseph Coltrane, and nephew Christopher Coltrane.
He is survived by beloved wife Hazel (nee White) of Strongsville, his daughter affectionately known as daddy’s girl Denise Kennedy and husband Joe Kennedy of Strongsville, his grandson who was the apple of his eye Aaron, honorary grandson Scotty who is affectionately known as minion, sister Darlene Coltrane of Lorain, OH brother in law Darrell White and his wife Helen Elyria OH, Sister in law Sarah White and her husband Brian of Lakewood Colorado, and sister in law Lorraine Coltrane of Virginia. Niece Kimberly White, Nephew Kevin White, great niece Emily White all of Colorado and nephew Gary Vick of Virginia, and cherished friend and fellow Vietnam Veteran Don Whitecar.
Memorial Service THURSDAY April 27, 2017 at 11AM at Southwest Baptist Church, 329 N. Carpenter Rd, Brunswick OH 44212. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Southwest Baptist Church in Brunswick. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2:30 PM. www.jardinefh.com.
