David Fondale's Obituary
David Fondale, a cherished family man, and respected veteran, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2024, in Medina, Ohio. Born on January 11, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Theresa Fondale, David's life was one marked by dedication, love, and a zest for adventure that touched all who knew him.
David's early life in Strongsville laid a strong foundation for the values he would carry throughout his life. Beloved husband of Janice for 54 years after meeting when David got out of the Army. They were committed to taking care of each other their entire time together. He grew up alongside his siblings Dominic (Sandra), the late Dale, Linda (Tom), Carol (Kyle), Cindy, and Debbie (Mark), in a home filled with laughter and love. David was always fond of his sister- in laws, Beverly and Pam, including their children. The bonds he formed in his youth with his brothers and sisters were unbreakable and would provide a source of strength and camaraderie throughout his life.
A patriot at heart, David answered the call of duty and served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His bravery and skills were recognized with several commendations, including the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the designation of Sharpshooter with the M-16. His time in the Army not only shaped his character but also forged lifelong friendships with his fellow soldiers. David's commitment to his fellow veterans remained steadfast, and he cherished the reunions and visits with his Army friends, as well as his cousins in Junction City.
After his military service, David returned to his roots in Ohio, where he became a heavy equipment operator at B&B Wrecking. Later in life starting a Family owned excavation business, which he ran with the same integrity and work ethic that he applied to every aspect of his life. Eventually returning and retiring at B&B Wrecking.
David's love for classic cars was more than a hobby; it was a passion he shared with his grandchildren, taking them for memorable rides in his 1931 and 1957 Chevy. These moments were cherished by his grandchildren, Tatiana,Victoria, Bianca, Rocco, and Demi, who will forever remember their grandfather's joy behind the wheel.
Above all, David was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving children, David Fondale, Kevin (Jodi) Fondale, Jason (Heather) Fondale, and Brett Fondale. His role as a father was one he embraced with his whole heart.
VISITATION will be held on THURSDAY, August 8th from 3pm – 7pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A funeral service will be held SAME DAY beginning at 7pm. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on FRIDAY, August 9th at 12:15pm.
