Dana L. Martin's Obituary
Dana Lynn Martin, a cherished educator, devoted family member, and beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at Southwest Hospital, at the age of 56. Born on Christmas Eve of 1969 in Berea, Ohio, Dana was a gift to all who knew her, spreading joy and compassion throughout her life.
Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Marlene Martin and sister, Dawn (Craig) Evans; nephew and niece: Austin and Andrea Evans; aunts and uncles: Donald (Holly) Rutti, and Donna Scholl; and many cousins. Dana also shared an unbreakable bond with her close friend, Amy Roalofs, and her loyal canine companion, Max, who was more than a pet but a treasured member of her family (and guard dog). Also left to remember Dana are the wonderful caregivers at Shurmer Place, who were so great with Dana and her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Steven Martin; her uncle and aunt Frank (Betty) Martin; her grandparents, Dominic (Lydia) Rutti and John (Helen) Martin; and cousin, Michael Scholl.
Dana's passion for children led her to achieve a Master's in Special Education, a field where she made a profound impact. She dedicated her career to the youth of Strongsville, serving as a beloved physical education teacher at Whitney Elementary for many years. Her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment shined through her role as a Special Olympics coordinator for 25 years and as the Strongsville Safety Town coordinator, where she ensured every child had the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment. Dana also received several awards from the city for her service and dedication to the community.
Dana's love for life extended beyond her professional achievements. Her interests were as diverse as her heart was large. An avid gardener, Dana found peace and contentment in the nurturing of her plants. Her enthusiasm for sports was infectious, with the Cavs, Indians, Browns, and Buckeyes holding a special place in her heart. She could often be found cheering on her favorite teams with the same fervor she applied to every aspect of her life. Fishing and boating with her dad at Salt Fork were some of her favorite memories.
Known for her garage sale adventures, Dana was always on the hunt for treasures, not just for herself but for others, keeping a keen eye out for items on her friends' wish lists. Her generosity was boundless; she was the embodiment of the adage, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world." Her neighbors knew her as more than a friend; she was family, always there to lend a hand or a listening ear.
Dana was a paradigm of love, kindness, and passion. The warmth of her personality and the sincerity of her actions made her an unforgettable presence in the lives of those she touched. Her legacy of caring and dedication to the well-being of children and so many others will continue to inspire and influence everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
As we say goodbye to Dana, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. Her memory will be cherished and her spirit will continue to guide us. Though she has left this earthly realm too quickly, the impact of her deeds and the love she shared will endure forever.
